Jose Mourinho could be planning a mammoth swap deal to bring Gareth Bale to Old Trafford and is willing to let go of Paul Pogba, according to reports from Spain.

Don Balon (h/t Manchester Evening News) claims that the former Real Madrid manager has made Bale his “dream summer signing” and might even offer extra cash along with Pogba to land the Welsh winger.

Bale has had his issues with Madrid over the past season as he only started 20 La Liga games but came off the bench to play a match-winning role in the Champions League final against Liverpool.

Even by starting just 20 league games last season, Bale scored 16 goals and chipped in with a couple of assists too. Pogba, for his part, has had doubts about his playing ability at Old Trafford under Mourinho and only scored 6 goals in all competitions for United, though he did provide 11 assists.

The report also goes on to say that Real Madrid would need some convincing to accept the deal given that their star manager Zinedine Zidane has resigned from the job.

Manchester United are always linked with big-name players each summer. The Welshman initially had a great start to his career at Real Madrid but his playing time had come down under Zidane.

The 28-year-old also missed a few weeks due to an injury but is still one of the best players in the world and there is no doubt that any club would love to have him in their side.

Bale can play in a number of positions and has even been played as a striker, something that Cristiano Ronaldo has done over the years at Madrid.

It will be interesting to see just how this story develops as we do require additional firepower ahead of next season to win the Premier League and more.
