Following the potential exit of the stellar midfielder Scott McTominay, who is most likely to sign for Napoli, another player from their midfield ranks is likely to leave Old Trafford and join another English club before the closure of the summer transfer window.
The player in question here is Hannibal Mejbri. As the Tunisian international has one year left on his United contract, he has no future at the club and he could be looking for a new club this transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Burnley have reached a verbal agreement to sign Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United. Medical tests could take place today as a club-to-club deal has been agreed for a loan move with a mandatory buy clause.
Notably, the 21-year-old joined The Red Devils back in 2019 from Monaco as a 16-year-old for a hefty prize of €10 million and inclined through the club’s youth academy. He has made 13 first-team appearances for the club and 27 appearances for the Tunisia national team. He joined La Liga side Sevilla on loan in January 2024 but did not get much game time.
This move could prove to be a career-changing spell for the young gun, as he is expected to get an ample amount of game time at Turf Moor, ultimately enhancing his game and getting a chance to establish himself as a force to be reckoned within the realm of professional football.
United, on the other hand, has juggernauts like Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, and Mason Mount in their midfield ranks and they are least likely to need Hannibal for their project now. The Manchester-based club are currently focused on roping in Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint Germain a deal which is likely to happen before the transfer window closes.
Rangers are in talks with Manchester United to sign Hannibal Mejbri
According to Team Talk, Scottish club Rangers are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri on a loan deal for the upcoming season. The club has started initial discussions with the Red Devils for the French-born player. United are also keen on offloading the player in the summer.
Hannibal joined the Manchester United academy in 2019 for around £8.4m following his stint with Monaco. The young attacking midfielder has thrived at the academy level and also won the United’s Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award for the Under-21s in 2021 and made his senior debut in May of that year.
The Tunisian international failed to make any impact in the senior team and he has struggled for the playing time at Old Trafford due to his underwhelming performances. United also loaned out the player to Championship club Birmingham City in the 2022–23 season. The young midfielder had a productive spell with the club and returned to the United last summer.
Erik ten Hag has used the young midfielder in some games, but he failed to impress the Dutch manager. He made only 11 appearances for the Red Devils last campaign under Erik ten Hag. Later, he was loaned to La Liga club Sevilla in January and the Spanish club had the opportunity to sign him permanently. However, he has only featured in six games for the Spanish club.
He is currently entering the final 12 months with United, and the club is set to offload the player in the summer. Rangers have expressed their desire to sign the player and they are discussing the possibilities with United.
United want to sell Mejbri in the summer
Rangers are in talks with Manchester United for Hannibal Mejbri
After an underwhelming stint with Sevilla, Ten Hag has no intentions of retaining Hannibal for the upcoming season. United are keen on offloading the player in the summer, as his contract expires next summer. The Red Devils are not interested in letting him leave for free next year and they are trying to cash in on the player in summer.
Rangers and United are in talks for Hannibal’s move, but the Scottish club is seeking a loan deal. The Red Devils will only let the player leave on a permanent deal, so the club can earn a fee for the player.
The Tunisian international has no space in the United squad and if he prefers to stay at the club, he will be only used as a backup option for the Red Devils and it will affect his playing time. Rangers are casting their nets in Old Trafford to bolster their squad ahead of the new season and let’s see if they manage to net Mejbri in the days to come.
Scottish giants Rangers in advanced negotiations with Manchester United for Hannibal Mejbri on loan
According to a report from French outlet Africafoot, Rangers have expressed an interest in signing Manchester United creative midfielder Hannibal Mejbri on loan.
Hannibal Mejbri endured a dismal five-month loan spell with Sevilla last season, having arrived from the Red Devils in January in search of regular game time. He had made only 10 appearances across the first half of last term under Erik ten Hag and hoped to enjoy a run of games at Sevilla, but things didn’t go according to plan.
The Tunisia international made only six appearances for the Andalusian outfit—one start and five from the bench—amassing a paltry 101 minutes on the pitch under Quique Sanchez Flores. Having returned to Manchester earlier this summer, the youngster was a part of Erik ten Hag’s squad for the club’s opening two friendlies against Rosenborg and Rangers.
Hannibal has featured as a half-time substitute in both pre-season friendlies thus far. Having impressed in Man United’s 2-0 win over Rangers at Murrayfield, the aforementioned report claims boss Philippe Clement has made the Tunisian’s signature a ‘priority’ in this transfer window.
The Scottish giants are in advanced negotiations with Manchester United over a loan move, but face competition from FC Copenhagen, who have proposed the player and our club a loan move with an option to buy. However, the 21-year-old isn’t interested in FC Copenhagen’s proposal and has given a green signal to Rangers to proceed with negotiations.
Hannibal has failed to live up to his promise from the academy days whenever given opportunities by Ten Hag in the first team. After an encouraging loan spell with Birmingham City in the Championship in 2022/23, there was hope that he would return to our club and break into the first team.
Rangers and FC Copenhagen want to sign Man United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri on loan
Things haven’t been smooth sailing for the creative midfielder and the disastrous loan spell in Seville has done him no good. As the Red Devils already have experienced pros in Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Mason Mount and remain interested in bolstering the midfield unit this summer, Hannibal should be wary that he has little to no chance of playing regularly in the first-team in the 2024/25 campaign.
Thus, it will be best for the 21-year-old to leave Old Trafford. However, having entered the final year of his contract, INEOS may compel Rangers to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy him permanently, as we cannot allow the talented kid to leave on a free transfer next summer.
Once compared to the likes of club icons, Paul Scholes and David Beckham, it remains to be seen if Hannibal will ever come good on his promise.
Here is how Manchester United could line up against Rosenborg in their first pre-season friendly
The 2023/24 was a season to forget for Manchester United and their fans. They were eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage and finished eighth in the league—their worst-ever finish in the Premier League era. As a result, Erik ten Hag was under immense pressure heading into the FA Cup final against cross-town rivals Manchester City in May.
The odds were heavily stacked against Erik ten Hag and his side but they surprised almost everyone by beating their noisy neighbours 2-1 in the FA Cup final. A disastrous campaign was salvaged to some extent with the FA Cup triumph, although that did little to ease the pressure on Ten Hag.
After running a thorough end-of-the-season review, new co-owners INEOS came to the conclusion of sticking with Ten Hag as the manager. The Dutchman, whose current terms were about to expire next year, signed an extension at the club until the summer of 2026.
Under the new structure at Manchester United that has witnessed fresh executive appointments—including the timely stepping in of Dan Ashworth as the new sporting director and the hiring of Christopher Vivell as the temporary director of global talent—Ten Hag’s position has changed from a manager to a head coach. This continuity in leadership is pivotal as the 20-time English champions address changes on and off the field as well as strategic signings needed to strengthen the squad.
With less than a week away for the pre-season tour to begin, Manchester United players reported to Carrington on Monday morning. Ten Hag’s squad will return in batches over the next few weeks, with those fulfilling international commitments set to follow later.
The Dutchman’s side are set to travel to Norway for their first pre-season friendly against Rosenborg on July 15 before facing Rangers at Murrayfield five days later. The Man United squad then jet off for the United States tour where they will come up against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool.
Manchester United players who returned on Monday included Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Antony, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof. It is expected that Ten Hag will stick to his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation in the opening games of pre-season, although he may experiment with new formations depending on new signings and availability of players.
Our Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Rosenborg (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper—Andre Onana
After David de Gea was released last summer, Man United splashed £47.2m to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan. It wasn’t smooth sailing in his debut season at Old Trafford as Onana produced error-strewn displays in goal. His performances did improve to a certain extent during the second half of the campaign, with the Cameroonian playing a key role in his side’s FA Cup final win over City.
Having taken a season to adjust to the demands of Premier League football, Onana should come good this season. He is a certainty to start in goal for Man United against Rosenborg.
Left-back—Harry Amass
Harry Amass has gone from strength to strength since signing the club from Watford in 2023 and is widely regarded as one of the best young English talents in the game right now. He was around the first-team fringes last season but didn’t make his senior debut. Now with Luke Shaw away on international duty and Tyrell Malacia continuing his rehabilitation on a serious knee injury, the teenager has a chance to stake his claim at left-back.
Centre-back—Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire has seen his future at Man United grow increasingly uncertain over recent seasons. The 31-year-old was unlucky to miss out on a place in the England squad due to an injury. However, he seems to have recovered from his injury and should start against Rosenborg.
With the club committed to signing a centre-back or two this summer, Maguire would look to impress his boss with a clean performance in the first pre-season friendly.
Manchester United star Harry Maguire has recovered from his injury and should be available for the pre-season.
Centre-back—Victor Lindelof
Victor Lindelof struggled with injuries across the 2023/24 season. He is into the final year of his contract and the Red Devils are open to listen to offers for him, especially with the club actively pursuing new centre-backs.
With Raphael Varane released, Jonny Evans injured and Lisandro Martinez away with Argentina for the Copa America, the Swede looks likely to partner Maguire in central defence.
Right-back—Aaron Wan-Bissaka
With Diogo Dalot away on vacation after Portugal’s elimination at the hands of France in the 2024 Euros’ quarter-finals last week, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the only senior right-back at Ten Hag’s disposal. Wan-Bissaka is expected to start in his natural position, even though he was largely used as a left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia during the second half of the campaign.
Defensive midfield—Casemiro
Casemiro’s second season at Old Trafford was plagued with injuries. He failed to make a significant impact and the club are now ready to move on the Brazilian this summer to free up their wage bill. Having reported for training on Monday, though, he should be expected to start in his preferred role against Rosenborg.
Central midfield—Hannibal Mejbri
Hannibal Mejbri is back to the club after a hugely underwhelming loan spell with Sevilla. His stock has seemingly gone down after his wretched time in Spain, and if he is planning to move away from Old Trafford in search of regular game time, pre-season fixtures should give him opportunities to catch the attention of clubs across the continent.
Mason Mount will be eager to prove his worth at Man United.
Left-wing—Amad Diallo
Amad Diallo took time to get back to speed after spending several months on the sidelines due to an injury. The Ivorian was given opportunities at the back end of last season which he took with both hands. Back in training, Amad will look to catch the eye with his trickery, movement and dribbling skills.
Central attacking midfield—Mason Mount
A lot of buzz was created when Mason Mount swapped Chelsea for Man United last summer. However, constant injury problems ruined his debut season in Manchester. Now fully fit, the England international will be raring to shine for our club and nail down a spot in Ten Hag’s first XI.
Right-wing—Antony
After back-to-back underwhelming campaigns, Antony’s time at the club remains under serious doubt. This could be the last chance saloon for the diminutive Brazilian. He will be hoping to make a mark in the pre-season and fight for his spot under Ten Hag.
Much like many of his teammates, Marcus Rashford had an ordinary 2023/24 campaign. This led to him not being picked in the England squad for the 2024 Euros. The England snub for a major tournament should be enough to motivate our No.10 and prove his detractors wrong.
With Rasmus Hojlund having gone for an extended break following international commitments, Rashford should lead Man United’s attack against Rosenborg.
Manchester United are not happy with a La Liga club due to the treatment of their loanee
As reported by Spanish outlet AS, Manchester United have not been happy with how Hannibal Mejbri has been treated by Sevilla. The Tunisian midfielder is currently on loan to the La Liga club. The Spanish side also have the option to make his loan permanent.
Mejbri’s loan spell started back in January. Since then the 21-year-old has only made four appearances for Sevilla. The Red Devils have been extremely unhappy about the Tunisian’s lack of playing time.
The 21-year-old was sent out on loan to sort of prove himself. A lot of people at Old Trafford rate Mejbri highly, but Erik ten Hag didn’t seem convinced. Even the Dutchman was often hesitant to play the Tunisian.

However, his situation hasn’t improved despite the move. The season is also very close to ending, so it is unlikely that Mejbri will be able to do something meaningful during the rest of his time in Spain.
Another year wasted for a young player who is in desperate need of playing time. If the 21-year-old’s situation doesn’t improve upon his return to United he might find himself short on options.
Erik ten Hag should consider giving Mejbri a chance next season. The Tunisian has a ton of potential and could grow into a star for Old Trafford.

It seems like Mejbri will be returning to Manchester United this summer. Hopefully, the 21-year-old will find himself in a better situation this time around.

Manchester United loanee, Hannibal Mejbri is reaching another level says La Liga manager
Manchester United loanee, Hannibal Mejbri was shipped out to Sevilla in January. The Tunisian midfielder was very highly rated in Tunisia. However, for all his quality on the ball, his playing time under Erik ten Hag became a real issue.
Mejbri headed over to Spain in the hopes of getting more playing time, but, things didn’t quite go to plan for the 21-year-old. He was benched and not selected for the game despite being in perfect health to participate.
Sevilla manager, Quique Sanchez Flores said the Tunisian has been benched because he needs to realise where he is. Since then the Spanish manager seems to have changed his opinion about Mejbri as he was recently singing praises about him while talking to Diario de Sevilla. Let’s hear what he had to say. “The boy is reaching another level of understanding and is now capable of playing at any time. This has been a more mental adaption than a footballing one. Going from the Premier League to La Liga, which is very different.”
Flores added that Mejbri has done well to adapt to the game in Spain. He also mentioned that his mentality has been changed as well. During his time at Manchester United, the 21-year-old was playing for a team that contests for the top 5.
However, he has quickly become grounded now that he sees that his current team is in the bottom seven. The Tunisian has the skills required to hang with the best. Hopefully, his time in Spain will help him make a case for a starting spot at Old Trafford.

Sevilla has a buy clause included in the deal for Mejbri. If things go well over the next few months, the Tunisian might never return to Manchester United.
The Tunisian midfielder was amped up to be just as good of a signing as Mason Greenwood at Getafe. However, his life in Spain has been completely different from the English forward’s.
Mejbri has only featured twice and has been booked twice during his stint with Sevilla. Moreover, he was even benched from the team for two consecutive games despite being fit for duty.
Mejbri only went out on loan because he wasn’t getting enough playing time under Erik ten Hag. Unfortunately, his situation has not changed despite seeking a move away from the club.
This will surely hurt the Tunisian’s reputation as a player. People will soon begin to wonder whether he is as good as they have been led to believe.
It is now up to Hannibal to prove his critics wrong. The next time that Mejbri features for Sevilla, the 21-year-old has to be the point of difference or put on a positive display, at the very least.

The clock is ticking on Mejbri’s career, if he fails to impress during his time at Sevilla, Manchester United will have no reason to give him regular playing time when he returns during the summer.
Manchester United loanee’s start with Sevilla has not gone according to plan
Manchester United loanee Hannibal Mejbri has not had the dream start that he was hoping for during his time at Sevilla. The Red Devil has just recently joined the La Liga side.
After featuring for just 28 minutes during his first game for Sevilla, 21-year-old Mejbri was benched for the team’s second game, which was against Atletico Madrid. After questions were raised about him being omitted the La Liga side released a statement.
The only reason behind the Tunisian midfielder’s switch to La Liga was a lack of playing time under Erik ten Hag. Now that his stint in Spain is off to a rocky start things might not even improve for the 21-year-old.
Here’s what club manager Quique Sánchez Flores had to say about the situation. (h\t Manchester Evening News)
“After being with him, talking to him and having seen his first minutes in Girona, we are going to give him the necessary space to understand where he is, that he is at Sevilla and what it means,”
It seems like the Spanish manager wants Mejbri to properly grasp his situation at the club. He went on to say that the player needs to look at things from the outside before he is asked to return to the squad.
Flores also said that he would like to see whether the Tunisian properly applies himself or not. However, he does have faith in the player as he ended his statement by saying that in the end, Mejbri will understand what the team wants out of him.

Hannibal Mejbri has his work cut out for him. If he can’t grow to be the player that Sevilla wants him to be, the La Liga side will surely not exercise the buy option included in his loan deal.
Hannibal Mejbri sheds light on his reason behind leaving Manchester United for Sevilla.
Hannibal Mejbri has just recently left Manchester United as the club reached a loan deal with Sevilla. The Tunisian midfielder is one of the best young talents that the Red Devils have at the moment.
However, due to a lack of playing time under Erik ten Hag, the player was promptly moved over to La Liga. The Spanish club also has a buy option included in the deal.
So, there is a very real possibility that if Mejbri’s loan stint is a success, he will become a permanent member of the Sevilla outfit. Something which will not please the Old Trafford fans.

Let’s have a look at what the player had to say about his time away from the club. (h/t Mirror)
“The game here was crazy,”
“Before coming, my United teammates told me about the fans, the atmosphere there. It’s nice to play for a team with fans like this because they help you when you’re in difficult times.”
His explanation that about how nice the Sevilla fans are could be taken as a dig aimed at the Manchester United fans. We all know how quick the fans are to turn on their players when they don’t perform.
This has also been the case for Anthony Martial. He was worshipped during his best days, and everyone including the fans is waiting for the club to move on from him.

The 20-year-old will be getting consistent playing time for the first time in his senior team career. Everyone is counting on him to make the most out of this opportunity.
If Hannibal Mejbri ends up returning to the club he might face some kind of backlash from the fans. However, it’s nothing that a few good performances can’t fix.
Manchester United star has arrived in Spain to complete his move to La Liga
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United star Hannibal Mejbri has arrived in Spain to complete his move to La Liga. He will be joining Sevilla who have a €20m for the player.
Earlier there was some talk of the Red Devils having a buy-back clause included in the deal but that doesn’t look to be the case anymore. If Mejbri performs and Sevilla wants to keep him then Manchester United will lose out on his talent.
Everton was also reportedly interested in signing the Tunisian midfielder. However, the 20-year-old preferred a move away from the Premier League so Sevilla was the better option.
Mejbri has already shown that he is capable of flourishing in the middle line. His excellent command of the ball and fantastic passing ability are qualities that most teams would love to have.
Another Red Devil currently playing in Spain is Mason Greenwood. The 22-year-old has been impressing everyone in La Liga and has garnered interest from several clubs.
If Mejbri’s stint is even remotely as impressive as Greenwood’s Manchester United could lose out on the 20-year-old talent. The stage is set and all eyes are now on the Tunisian midfielder.

Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, and Hannibal Mejbri will all return to Old Trafford during the summer where their future with the team will then be evaluated.
Fans are hoping that all three of the Old Trafford squad end up returning but that might not be possible for the Tunisian who will likely be made a permanent addition in Spain.
