The fact that Manchester United are struggling would be an understatement as a testament to the expectations millions of Red Devil hearts across the globe share. It not only pertains to the numbers on the table, but the struggles go beyond and fingers point at one man, Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch coach is overlooking an underwhelming campaign at Old Trafford, and his long-term future has dominated the anecdotal whispers around Manchester. United’s new owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have failed to back Ten Hag’s long-term stature at the club.

The pressure on Erik ten Hag & Co. was in abundance before the 3-1 loss to Manchester neighbours in the Derby. The defeat to City leaves United eleven points wide of the mark to the fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Issues at Old Trafford have started to pile up as with external pressure, the internal cohesion of trust has started drifting. According to a report by The Manchester Evening News, some players in the dressing room have started questioning Erik ten Hag’s methods while some of them claiming it to be too taxing. The players believe that Ten Hag’s way around things has contributed to the long injury list.

Manchester United have accumulated a flabbergasting 47 cases of injury or illness this season.

This adds to the pressure on Ten Hag’s future at the club.

What does Paul Scholes think?

Manchester United iconic midfielder Paul Scholes believes that the pharma billionaire and his team have already decided on Erik ten Hag’s long-term future at Old Trafford. He insists that United will make a managerial change before next season.

Scholes speaking to Optus Sport on Sunday:

“What we’re seeing is a million miles away from a team that should be challenging for the league. Every single season it’s just so far away.

When Scholes was asked if in his opinion Ten Hag would still be in charge of United next season, Scholes added:

“I think they [INEOS] have already made their mind up. I don’t think he will be there next season. No. From the interviews, we’ve heard with Sir Jim, I thought there was a little bit of negativity towards the club the last 10 or 11 years and especially the last two years. I don’t think he’s happy with what’s going on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re looking for a new manager now. I’m not saying it’s the right decision.”

The pressure is piling on Erik ten Hag and if that continues there is only one outcome possible.
