Erik ten Hag says Manchester United’s form is unacceptable following their loss against Chelsea
Manchester United fought a tough battle to overcome Chelsea last night but gave it all away during the closing moments of the game. The Red Devils were up 3-2 with three minutes of stoppage time remaining.
A most ridiculous turn of events then took place and Manchester United found themselves down 4-3 when the final whistle blew. Another game was thrown away during the closing minutes by the Old Trafford squad. Here’s what Erik ten Hag had to say about his team’s form following the loss (h/t BBC)
“In five days we dropped five points. That is unacceptable. We should have a high standard if we want to compete for Champions League football.
Erik ten Hag added that it was very disappointing to see his team give away such games. He says that Manchester United needs to play at a higher level than they did against Chelsea to be in the Champions League.
However, the Red Devils’ hopes of playing in European competitions next season might already be dead. Before they can even have a look at the top four, the team needs to catch up to Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham Hotspur.
The Lilywhites are in fifth place and find themselves nine points ahead of United. With just eight games remaining closing such a large gap seems all but impossible for Manchester United.
If they had won both of their games this past week the team would’ve found themselves within three points of Tottenham. The past two games for Man United can’t be described as anything less than a huge blunder.
