Manchester United could soon get their hands on Bayern Munich superstar who is open to Erik ten Hag reunion

Manchester United have a very good shot at landing Bayern Munich superstar who is now open to a reunion with Erik ten Hag. The player in question, Matthijs de Ligt is now open to leaving the German side, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils now have a very real shot at landing this young centre-back. Moreover, with Raphael Varane’s contract set to expire during the summer, the timing could not be more ideal.

Matthijs de Ligt has previously played under Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag. He was a mainstay on the Dutchman’s team back when he was head coach at Ajax.

Ajax played 117 games during his time at Ajax and was solid throughout. He was also a pivotal member of Erik ten Hag’s team which lifted the Dutch Cup back in 2019.

Manchester United have been very poor on the defensive side this season. The Red Devils are currently sitting seventh on the Premier League table and are the only team in the top 10 with a negative goal difference.

Adding Matthijs to the lineup will be a big boost for Ten Hag’s defensive line. The 24-year-old is an excellent one-on-one defender and his 1,89m tall frame makes him perfect for getting in the way of stray shots.

If Manchester United do end up signing Matthijs, the fans will be hoping that he ends up being better than the other player from Ajax, Antony.
