Latest documents shed light on why Qatari bidders failed with their Manchester United bid
Apart from Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid for Manchester United, there were Qatari bidders, who were looking to get a stake in the club as well. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani was thought to be in the running.
However, it has now been revealed that he dropped out of the race after failing to provide proof that he had enough finances for the deal. If the deal had gone through, Manchester United could have been worse off under the Qataris than they were under the Glazers.
It has also been revealed that a deal was only struck with Sir Jim Ratcliffe after he threatened to withdraw his bid. Manchester United made short work of Sir Jim’s bid as it was announced on the 24th of December.
Why the club was thinking about selling out to Qatari bidders is still a mystery. Manchester United would have been worse off if the deal had gone through. However, much to the relief of fans the Qatari bidders fell out.
Now that the ownership saga at Old Trafford is finally coming to an end the team can focus on playing football and producing results on the field. Manchester United are currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table.
