As reported by David Ornstein via X, Sergio Reguilon will be leaving Manchester United to rejoin Tottenham Hotspur this January. The Red Devils have activated the player’s break clause which will see him return to the team soon.

The 27-year-old has struggled to find playing time under Erik Ten Hag. He has shown the ability to be an excellent choice for most teams. During his loan spell at Sevilla, the player helped the La Liga side win the Europa League.

Maybe the Dutchman would have better results to show this season if he had given Reguilon more opportunities. Now, the Spanish defender is expected to become a regular for Postecoglou’s depleted roster.

The only reason he was on loan in the first place was due to a lack of playing time. Now that Tottenham are stretched thin due to injuries he should be able to find a role on the team.

Not a lot will change for Manchester United even though Reguilon is no longer a part of the squad. Erik ten Hag already has enough players warming the bench and doesn’t need to add another name to that list.

Speaking of bench warmers Manchester United must prepare to offload another player from their team this January. The sale of Jadon Sancho will allow the Red Devils to raise funds for new players.

One can argue that Reguilon never quite hit the heights that we saw from him during his time as a Europa League winner at Sevilla. However, he was a decent player and largely did a job at Old Trafford. Unless there is another player coming in, it makes no sense for us to terminate a loan midway through what is already a difficult campaign.

Now that Reguilon is on his way the team must set its sights towards bringing in some new talent. Fans are excited as there has been some talk of a possible Giorgio Scalvini signing.
