Clinton Morrison critical of Man United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka in 2-2 draw against Liverpool
It was unfortunate that Manchester United let away a penalty for Liverpool late in the match to level things up in the recently concluded 2-2 draw between the sides at Old Trafford. Just as it looked like United would secure three valuable points against a tough opposition, Liverpool tried multiple ways to get back in the game.
On one such instance, Harvey Elliott tried to find Mohamed Salah in the penalty area, and while he attempted to do so, an ill-timed tackle from, you won’t guess it, Aaron Wan-Bisakka took the 21-year-old out in what was a clear penalty. Former Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison spoke about the moment on BBC, and here is what he noted:
“We have seen Aaron Wan-Bissaka timing them tackles excellently, but it was tired legs and tired minds.”
“Wan-Bissaka will look at it and think it’s a big mistake.”
While the penalty is the reason we did not come away as winners in this match, we surely can’t blame Wan-Bissaka though, can we? This was probably his first mistimed tackle in about three years. He can do nothing but take it in his stride and move on.
Chin up, Aaron!
The full-back, playing on his unusual left side to negate the effect of dangerous Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, did extremely well to keep the Egyptian quiet. In fact, until the penalty, Salah was nearly invisible throughout major phases of the game, and a lot of credit for that has to go AWB’s way.
Despite the unfortunate outcome of his mistimed challenge, Wan-Bissaka’s overall contribution to Manchester United’s defensive efforts was commendable and deserving of recognition.
In football, mistakes are an inevitable part of the game. In fact, it was a mistake from the Liverpool centre-back that gave us our first goal of the match. Even the most accomplished players experience moments of misjudgment or error. What distinguishes individuals is their ability to learn and grow from such setbacks, using them as opportunities for improvement and development.
Wan-Bissaka’s professionalism and resilience in the face of adversity will be crucial as he seeks to rebound from this disappointment. His commitment to continuous improvement and his unwavering determination to succeed will undoubtedly serve him well as he strives to maintain the high standards expected of him at Manchester United.

While the late penalty denied United a victory in a closely contested match, Wan-Bissaka’s overall performance demonstrated his value to the team and his importance within the defensive unit. Nevermind though, Liverpool needed a penalty to draw against one of the worst United sides in the last decade and that speaks enough in itself.
