Manchester United icon Andy Cole is adamant that the senior team’s dressing room has a mole

Manchester United icon Andy Cole believes that the dressing room has a mole which raises questions about the team’s unity. The continuous leaks of private information and behind-the-scene issues have created unnecessary unrest around the club.

United are having a nightmare season as they have already crashed out of the Champions League and the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils finished fourth in the Champions League Group A, crashing out of the European competitions for this season.

United manager Erik ten Hag faced an embarrassing first Champions League campaign with United, losing four games from six matches. The Red Devils have to battle in the Premier League to fulfil their minimum expectation of a top-four finish.

Several important first-team players at United have suffered from multiple injuries and displayed poor individual forms. Amid these issues, Ten Hag has failed to deploy a successful tactical approach to build cohesiveness and consistency.

The 53-year-old had a public fallout with Jadon Sancho earlier in the season, leading to the forward’s banishment. Furthermore, the Red Devils have banned four journalists from their press conference for publishing stories about the dressing room conflicts.

Cold told Betfred (h/t Metro) that the leaking of information from the dressing room shows the lack of unity. He said:

“There’s definitely a mole, isn’t there? Nothing comes out of a good dressing room, regardless of what’s been going on. Players fall out, the manager and players fall out, and these are things that you’d expect to happen in football, but if you’re in a good dressing room, nobody hears about what’s happening. At Manchester United now, information is being leaked so regularly, and if the dressing room was truly united, then that wouldn’t be happening. Information usually comes out when things aren’t doing well”

United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand. The Northwest derby match against historic rivals Liverpool at Anfield is next on their schedule.

Ten Hag needs his dressing room as the Premier League competition has been tough with no margin of error. Treble-winning Man City have the power to build a long run of victories to rectify their season. Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also considerably strong and capable of building consistent results to achieve top-four.

Cole has made some valid points about the dressing room as there’s more to United’s struggles than injuries and tactics. The lack of cohesiveness and individuality is very evident on the field, creating a lot of problems for Ten Hag.

The Red Devils have won many games unconvincingly due to some individual brilliance from one player or another. A club of United’s stature needs its team to play more cohesively and entertain the Old Trafford loyalists accordingly.
