Manchester United are on the lookout for a midfielder ahead of the 2024 January transfer window and now have their eyes on AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders.

The Dutchman has adapted well to life at the San Siro and is one of the most impactful players in Stefano Pioli’s squad. A dynamic presence in the middle of the park, he would certainly add the x-factor to the Manchester United midfield.

Reijinders largely came through the PEC Zwolle youth system before moving to AZ Alkmaar in 2017. It is here that he rose to prominence and established himself as one of the best players in the Eredivisie.

The 25-year-old rejected Barcelona to move to Milan last summer and it would appear that the Italian giants have a gem on their hands. His strong performances for the Rossoneri have not gone unnoticed, with Manchester United now keeping tabs.

According to Calciomercato, a midfielder appears to be on the club’s radar and they might wait until the summer of 2024 to reinforce the position. A central midfielder, the AC Milan man can do a job at both ends of the field and can be classified as an all-action player.

The Red Devils lack such a talent on their roster and Erik ten Hag will be aware of Reijinders from his time in the Dutch top flight. The versatile star will cost Manchester United around €40 million, a solid price given what he will bring to the Old Trafford roster.

Reijinders is still to enter his prime and should only get better with time. A solid dribbler who can pass and get the ball forward, he will make life easier for the likes of Bruno Fernandes.

However, the Red Devils also need a new number six who can hold the fort down, allowing Reijinders to push forward and make better use of his talents upfield. The Dutchman is more of a facilitator but could be left exposed without a defensive midfielder to mop[ up behind him.

With Casemiro not getting any younger and Sofyan Amrabat’s deal yet to be made permanent, it is another area the Red Devils must look at.

Signing the AC Milan man, especially for the quoted price could prove to be a steal for the Red Devils. However, as Reijinders continues to go from strength to strength, it remains to be seen if AC Milan will even consider selling him.
