Manchester United eyeing a move for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders
Manchester United need a new midfielder and it looks like AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has emerged as an option that they can explore in the January transfer market.
The 25-year-old Dutchman has been at AC Milan since the beginning of the summer and has done pretty well for the Italian giants. Why he would want to leave so soon after joining them remains to be a question.
It has emerged that PSG and Manchester United are interested in Tijjani Reijnders. AC Milan would apparently ask for around €40million to sell the Dutchman. That isn’t a very high fee for a player of his quality.
Predominantly a central midfielder who can also cover in attacking and defensive positions, Reijnders is the kind of player that United don’t have. All the midfielders they have are either attacking (Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen) or defensive (Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat).
The only in-between presence they have in the squad is Scott McTominay and it is no coincidence that United are playing better football with him in the team. Reijnders though would be an upgrade on the Scottish star.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, United could look to find a way to try and sign the 25-year-old in January. If they can make the right offer, there is no reason why the Italian club might not consider selling him.
This though could mean lesser game time for the likes of Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen. Unless Erik ten Hag decides a change of system and looks to play the duo in different roles, it might affect the dressing room.
It might also be too soon for United to make a call on Reijnders. He has hardly been at AC Milan for a few months. It is a gamble that we will be taking and there must be a better option out there who is more established.
