Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich might miss Champions League clash against Manchester United due to injury
Manchester Evening News reports that Bayern Munich face fitness concerns over Joshua Kimmich ahead of their Champions League clash against Manchester United. Kimmich, widely regarded as one of the best midfielders globally, is a key player for Bayern.
Bayern played Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-2 draw at Allianz Arena, and Kimmich got substituted for Noussair Mazraoui.
Former Bayern manager Pep Guardiola gave Kimmich his Bundesliga debut, primarily deploying him at right-back. The German international demonstrated remarkable versatility by seamlessly transitioning to central midfield. He’s also capable of playing in the centre-back role if needed.
The 28-year-old has since solidified his position as a key player at the German club. He’s renowned for his playmaking ability, aggressiveness, and high football intelligence.
Speaking after the game (h/t Manchester Evening News), Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Kimmich has an inflamed tendon. Tuchel said:
Tuchel aimed to sign a new No.6 during the summer transfer window but the deal for João Palhinha collapsed at the last minute. In Kimmich’s absence against Leverkusen, Matthijs de Ligt filled the defensive midfield role.
United are grappling with midfield issues of their own, with Casemiro struggling for form. The Red Devils’ Premier League form has been rocky, suffering three losses in five games.
Their recent match against Brighton & Hove Albion ended in a 1-3 home defeat on Saturday. United is keen to monitor Kimmich’s situation and capitalize on the absence of the midfielder.

Even without Kimmich, Bayern remain a formidable opponent for United at Allianz Arena. The two European giants clash for the 12th time in the Champions League opening fixture. Bayern has won four of the previous meetings, while United clinched two victories and five matches ended in a draw.
