Manchester United demand sabotaged Jadon Sancho’s Saudi Arabia move

Manchester United sabotaged Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq’s loan deal to sign Jadon Sancho by insisting on a £50 million obligation-to-buy clause for a proposed loan deal for Sancho’s services, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The report suggests that Sancho was considering the loan switch to reignite his career. Unfortunately, the Saudis believed the £50m fee was ‘too much’ to promise. But what it does show is that Manchester United deem Sancho expendable for the right price.

United signed the 23-year-old from the German club Borussia Dortmund for £73mil. on 1st July 2021. At that time, the move made Sancho the second most expensive English player behind his United team-mate Harry Maguire.

The English international has struggled to find consistent form at Old Trafford, making 82 appearances for the club. Sancho has scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists so far at United.

United have struggled with form in the current season as they find themselves in 11th position. The Red Devils lost 3-1 to Arsenal in an away game at Emirates in which Sancho did not feature.

United manager Erik ten Hag gave an interview after the game where he said Sancho was dropped from the game against Arsenal due to poor training performances.

Sancho made an immediate retaliation through the social platform, X, by posting a message. The Englishman claimed he has been “a scapegoat for a long time”.

Since the controversy surrounding him, the Red Devils have announced their Champions League squad and included Sancho.

Former United players, pundits, and fans have taken divisive stance over the situation. As the report suggests Sancho will have a conversation with the coaching staff at United during the international break.
