Fringe Manchester United striker Anthony Martial now a subject of interest for Inter Milan
As per a report on Caught Offside (h/t Manchester Evening News), Inter Milan are eyeing a possible move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial before the transfer window deadline.
Martial, who missed the FA Cup final last season due to a hamstring injury, did not feature in the pre-season due to that setback.
United signed Rasmus Hojlund in the summer window to bolster their centre-forward department. The Danish international is currently recovering from a back injury of his own.

After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the middle of last season, there was an onus on Martial to take that number nine position and make it his own.
But, the Frenchman’s inconsistent availability has put a spanner to that. He made only 21 league appearances last season, 10 of which came as a substitute off the bench (Whoscored).
The 27-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford expires next summer (Transfermarkt). So, United have a decision to make here.
The club can either keep him as a backup to Hojlund and let him go for free next year, or sell him now and hope that the likes of Marcus Rashford can play as a nine as and when required. He did so on Monday night against Wolves anyway.

If Martial is to leave the club this summer, it would mark the end of an underwhelming tenure here. It is almost eight years ago when he scored that magical goal against Liverpool on his debut at Old Trafford. Special things were anticipated then. None of that has materialised.

United should make this an easy deal for Inter to make. There is no point demanding a high fee for the Frenchman, that too while knowing that he can start talking to clubs for a pre-contract agreement from January onward.
