Manchester United star Scott McTominay viewed as a perfect replacement for former West Ham captain Declan Rice

According to the Sun, West Ham United are still keeping tabs on Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, seeing him as a potential long-term replacement for their former star player, Declan Rice.

Having progressed through United’s academy, McTominay has remained with the club throughout his career. Since making his debut in 2017, he has amassed 209 appearances for the senior team, contributing 19 goals and five assists.

The 26-year-old Scottish international is highly regarded by the fans due to his loyalty and commitment to the club.

Despite being an important player for the Red Devils in recent years, the experienced midfielder has seen reduced playing time and is no longer a regular starter for the team.

His playing time at Old Trafford has decreased this season, mainly because of the arrival of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who have formed an indispensable partnership in the midfield for the team.

Mason Mount’s signing has further hindered his chance of reviving his career next season. The No. 39’s last Premier League start for Man United was on October 2nd, during a 6-3 loss to Manchester City.

Since then, he has only made six substitute appearances in the Premier League. As a result, several clubs have shown interest in signing the midfielder.

West Ham are showing particular interest in signing a defensive midfielder who could potentially fill the shoes of the former captain, Rice, in the long term.

They were initially interested in signing Southmpton’s James Ward-Prowse. However, they are now willing to drop their pursuit of the Saints midfielder due to their high asking price.

They have now been focusing on the United midfielder. Although the Scottish star may not have the same profile or pedigree as the highly-rated Arsenal midfielder, he could still be a valuable addition to the Hammer’s midfield, addressing their significant squad depth concerns.

Being a young player, McTominay has the prime of his career ahead of him, making him an attractive prospect for the club.

His versatility in midfield makes him capable of fulfilling various roles, including that of a box-to-box midfielder, a man marker, or a defensive midfielder. His adaptability provides valuable options and flexibility for the team, depending on their tactical needs and match situations.

Both McTominay and his partner in midfield, Fred, are said to be potentially available for transfer this summer as part of Erik ten Hag’s extensive revamp of his squad.

The duo, known as “McFred,” are said to be on the market, with the manager keen to offload both players as he seeks to make significant changes to the team.

David Moyes’s strong interest in McTominay is a significant development for United. The Red Devils could benefit from the cash infusion to continue their summer rebuilding efforts, focusing on strengthening other areas of the team.

However, the Hammers would need to offer an attractive bid if they want to get their target this summer. If it happens, the transfer will be a perfect match for all parties involved.
