Manchester United have re-signed Jonny Evans on a short-term deal to feature in the upcoming pre-season friendlies, according to the club’s official website.

The 35-year-old left Leicester City last month after the expiration of his contract. In the previous campaign, the Foxes were relegated, with the centre-back being on the sidelines with an injury for most of the 2022/23 term.

After parting ways with the King Power Stadium side, the defender is yet to find a new club. As things stand, the Northern Ireland international has been training with the Old Trafford side.

Evans has been training with the U21s at United. However, he has also taken part in some first-team training sessions. Subsequently, the defender has caught Erik ten Hag’s eye, who has included him in the travelling squad for the game against Olympique Lyon.

The Red Devils will take on the Ligue 1 outfit at the Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland on Wednesday (19 July). After that, the 35-year-old will travel with the academy group to San Diego to take on Wrexham.

Evans made his way through the youth ranks at United. He made a place for himself in the team under Sir Alex Ferguson and was a key player during our 2011 and 2013 Premier League winning campaigns. The centre-back also boasts a Champions League medal with us.

In the summer of 2015, West Bromwich Albion signed him before he moved to Leicester three years later. At the King Power Stadium side, the Northern Irish national had some of his best seasons performing at a high level.
