Fulham forward Willian approached by Manchester United this summer
Manchester United enquired about the possibility of signing Fulham star Willian in the ongoing transfer window, according to ESPN Brasil correspondent Joao Castelo-Branco on Twitter (h/t Metro).
Last summer, the Craven Cottage side had signed the Brazilian on a one-year contract. Subsequently, the forward’s deal at the London-based club expired at the end of June and he became a free agent.
To that end, the Red Devils had made an approach and were considering getting a hold of the 34-year-old’s signature. However, while the Old Trafford side had held initial discussions, nothing was concrete as he was a backup target.
In the end, Willian re-signed for Fulham this summer. Apart from United, Premier League rivals Chelsea were also in touch with the winger’s representatives. Nottingham Forest were interested in the Brazilian as well.
Having joined Chelsea in the summer of 2013, the 34-year-old went on to establish himself as a Stamford Bridge icon before ending a seven-year stint with the Blues.
Subsequently, Willian featured for Arsenal in the 2020/21 term before moving to Corinthians. Last summer, the Brazilian made his way back to the English top flight and was a standout player for Marco Silva’s team.
In the previous campaign, Erik ten Hag mostly relied on Marcus Rashford down the left-hand side of the attack. The England international was our talisman and the only reliable forward at the gaffer’s disposal.
However, Alejandro Garnacho made a place for himself in the Dutch manager’s plans with some cracking performances last season. The Argentine was mostly used as an impact substitute and put in some energetic and electric displays on the left wing.

United also have Jadon Sancho and Antony at their disposal. Thus, we have enough depth out wide. Therefore, it would seemingly not have made sense to add Willian to the ranks.
