Barcelona drop out of Manchester United target and Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat race
Manchester United target and Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is no longer on the radar of Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on CaughtOffside (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Old Trafford side this summer. However, the Red Devils will only consider a move for the Morocco international only if there is a departure from the squad first.
In January, the Camp Nou side were interested in acquiring the services of the 26-year-old. But at the moment, the Blaugrana are no longer looking to get his signature and are instead looking at cheaper alternatives.
As for the Serie A outfit, they do not have much time if they want to cash in on Amrabat. The Moroccan’s current contract with the Florence-based club will expire next summer. They want between £30–£34 million for him right now.
Considering the 26-year-old will be a free agent next year, the price tag seems a bit steep. However, it is understandable that Fiorentina are demanding such an amount after the midfielder’s performances in the 2022 World Cup.
Amrabat also enjoyed a fruitful 2022/23 term with the Viola. The Moroccan was a key player for them as the Italian outfit made it to the UEFA Europa Conference League final last season.
In the middle of the park, Erik ten Hag counted on Casemiro in the number six position in the previous campaign. United the Brazilian last summer from Real Madrid.
While the 31-year-old’s addition has added much-needed quality to our engine room, the gaffer heavily relied on the midfielder in his first year in charge of the Old Trafford side. Scott McTominay and Fred have been inconsistent at the club for some time now.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will consider bringing in Amrabat to add more quality in depth. With Barcelona out of the race, a move evidently will become a bit easier.
