Erik ten Hag open to Dean Henderson Manchester United stay amidst goalkeeping uncertainty
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is open to keeping Dean Henderson at the club amidst the uncertainty in the goalkeeping department, according to The Sun (h/t Mirror).
The 26-year-old spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest. In the ongoing transfer window, the English national is looking to make a permanent move to the Tricky Trees.
However, with the future of David de Gea in the balance, it remains to be seen whether the shot-stopper will be allowed to leave the Old Trafford side.
As things stand, the Spaniard’s current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of this month. The 32-year-old is disgruntled after a new deal was withdrawn from the table.
United and the former Atletico Madrid star had come to a consensus on fresh terms. However, with the Manchester-based club backing away, the veteran goalkeeper will become a free agent soon.
If that happens, Henderson will be one of the two senior shot-stoppers at Erik ten Hag’s disposal. The English national did not part ways with the Red Devils on the best of terms last summer, taking shots at the Old Trafford side for apparently breaking promises.
Nonetheless, the 26-year-old at one point looked on course to be the number one at United. In the 2020/21 campaign, he shared minutes with De Gea.
However, the Spaniard subsequently managed to pip Henderson in the pecking order, which led to the English national hardly getting any minutes. But the 32-year-old has not looked comfortable under Erik ten Hag.
