Barcelona leave door open for Frenkie de Jong exit amidst Manchester United interest
Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong could be sold by Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window to raise funds, according to journalist Achraf Ben Ayad via Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Balugrana have left the door open for the Holland international’s services. To that end, if a compelling offer arrives, then the Camp Nou side will be willing to part ways with him.
As things stand, Barcelona need to balance their books and reduce salary costs. Therefore, they have not ruled out the departure of some of the heavyweights in the squad, including the 26-year-old.
United are set to pursue De Jong once again and do all it takes to give Erik ten Hag his services. If the La Liga giants sell the midfielder, then the Red Devils would be willing to get a hold of his signature.
Last summer, we were in a similar situation. The Old Trafford side pursued the Holland international for a long time. However, in the end, the 26-year-old ended up staying at the Catalan outfit.
De Jong has now established himself as a pivotal player for Xavi. Also, Barcelona have lost Sergio Busquets from their engine room. But the Camp Nou side have signed Ilkay Gundogan, who has left Manchester City after winning the treble.
After a much-publicised push for the Holland international in the summer of 2022, United ended up adding Casemiro to their ranks. The Brazil international has been a revelation at the Old Trafford side.
However, we still seemingly lack quality in the engine room. Christian Eriksen is a decent ball carrier. Unfortunately, fitness-wise, the Danish national leaves a lot to be desired. Fred and Scott McTominay have not convinced with their displays either over the years.

Therefore, we could evidently do with someone like De Jong in our ranks. The Dutch national is a world-class midfielder. But will Ten Hag finally get his wish and reunite with the 26-year-old in Manchester? Only time will tell.
