Sofyan Amrabat decides to join Atletico Madrid from Fiorentina amidst Manchester United interest
Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has decided to join Atletico Madrid this summer amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com.
Los Rojiblancos are keen on acquiring the Morocco international’s services. He has decided to leave Fiorentina and will start a new chapter elsewhere in the coming months.
In January, the 26-year-old was eyeing a move to Barcelona. However, it was not meant to be. As things stand, the Red Devils are also an option. But he looks set to join Diego Simeone’s team.
La Viola are looking to get no less than €30 million for Amrabat. However, the La Liga outfit will try to negotiate a lower price, considering the midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season.
The Moroccan made his way to the Florence-based club in the summer of 2020. Since then, the 26-year-old has been ever-present in the Serie A outfit’s starting lineup. However, it was Amrabat’s performances in the 2022 World Cup that caught a lot of people’s attention. The midfielder shone for Walid Regragui’s team as they made it to the semi-finals in Qatar.
Atletico have the likes of Axel Witsel, Koke, Rodrigo De Paul, Marcos Llorente and Thomas Lemar in their ranks for now. It remains to be seen how Simeone will fit in the Moroccan.
On the other hand, United signed Casemiro last summer. The Brazilian was the first choice in the number six role for Erik ten Hag last season.
Apart from the 31-year-old, Scott McTominay and Fred can also play in that position. However, the two often leave a lot to be desired when called upon. As a result, without the former Real Madrid star in the team, we struggled to get positive results last season.

Amrabat has showcased his talent as an enforcer on the biggest stage. The 26-year-old is in his prime at the moment. However, will the Old Trafford side opt to compete with Atletico for the Moroccan’s signature? Only time will tell.
