Manchester United are eyeing up a shock move for Leeds United defender Robin Koch
As per Sky Sports report Florian Plettenberg (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are eyeing a move for Robin Koch from relegated Leeds United during the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has been part of the Leeds team since the 2020/21 season, just after they got promoted to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.
The German international made 77 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire-based club, most of them as a centre-back but 18 as a defensive midfielder (Transfermarkt).
He is a technically sound player who reads the game well and has the pace to match up with the forwards. But, as we can associate with all the Leeds defenders, Koch is prone to making mistakes that lead to the opposition creating a chance on goal.
The German’s contract at Elland Road expires next summer (Transfermarkt). With the club set to play Championship football next season, will they need to sell some of their players to free up the wage bill and get it back to Championship standards? We would think so.
From Manchester United’s viewpoint, although Koch is a decent player, the club can do better than signing him. They are in the race to get Napoli’s Kim Min-jae, who is also a Bayern Munich target.
The Red Devils could do with an addition at the back to support Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Harry Maguire might be offloaded this summer, while Victor Lindelof is not good enough. Luke Shaw should be used as a left-back rather than in central defence.

Koch is not the solution to this problem for them. The idea should be to sign Min-jae and go from there. Erik ten Hag is an excellent manager who would find a way to fit the latter in the regular starting XI.
