Atalanta want club-record £86 million for Manchester United target Rasmus Hojlund

Serie A outfit Atalanta have put a club-record £86 million price tag on Rasmus Hojlund amidst links to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

The highest transfer fee the Bergamo-based club have received till date is from Tottenham Hotspur for Cristian Romero (£45 million). However, La Dea are set to ask for a fee ‘well in advance’ of that for their Danish striker.

In the ongoing transfer window, the Red Devils are expected to firm up their interest in the 20-year-old. Premier League rivals Chelsea also have the youngster on their radar.

Atalanta signed Hojlund in the summer of 2022 from Sturm Graz. The Denmark international is tied down to the Serie A outfit until June 2027.

La Dea recently held a meeting to decide the striker’s valuation. The Bergamo-based club feel that with the growing attentiveness towards the 20-year-old and a lack of quality strikers in the market, what they are asking for is fair.

However, Hojlund is still an up-and-coming star. While he has shown a lot of potential, in the previous campaign, the Danish national found the back of the net 10 times in 34 appearances in all competitions.

United’s front line relied on Marcus Rashford last season. The England international shouldered the burden of our attack and was the club’s leading goalscorer.

Apart from the 25-year-old, none of our other forwards was able to contribute a considerable amount in the final third of the pitch. In the number nine position, Wout Weghorst featured heavily in the second half of the campaign due to Anthony Martial’s fitness issues.

As things stand, Hojlund has the ability to seemingly be a decent backup for the Old Trafford side. Therefore, spending a massive amount on the 20-year-old for now does not make sense.
