Sheikh Jassim to add £50 million to Manchester United transfer budget if takeover successful

Potential new Manchester United owner Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has promised to add £50 million to the club’s transfer budget, according to the Metro (h/t Mirror).

In November, the Glazer family announced their decision to sell the Red Devils. To that end, the Qatari billionaire is one of the parties in the race to acquire the Old Trafford side but faces competition from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

As things stand, United pay the aforementioned amount per year as debt interest payments. Sheikh Jassim has promised to wipe United’s dues immediately. To that end, the Red Devils will have more to spend every year.

Erik ten Hag wants to bring in seven players in the ongoing transfer window. For now, the gaffer will be given £120 million to spend this summer, plus what the Old Trafford side will be able to accrue from the outgoings.

Last summer, the Dutch manager saw the arrival of five players on a permanent deal. Tyrell Malacia was the first one to walk through the door followed by the arrival of Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The Danish national was pivotal to our plans last season.

Then, Lisandro Martinez made his way to Manchester and reunited with Ten Hag. The Argentine has quickly become a fan favourite due to his aggressive and tenacious defending.

Subsequently, United waited a bit before acquiring the services of Casemiro and Antony. The former Real Madrid star has been pivotal to the Red Devils’ success under the Dutch manager. On the other hand, the former Ajax Amsterdam winger had a mixed debut campaign at the Old Trafford side.

In January, while we evidently needed to add quality in depth, the gaffer was handed Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer on loan. Despite not being seemingly backed in the previous transfer window, the former Ajax head coach managed to get us into the top four and won the Carabao Cup.

If the stories around Sheikh Jassim are true, then hopefully, he will be successful in his takeover bid. The Qatari has evidently all the right things planned to take United back to the top.
