Harry Maguire wanting to stay may hinder Manchester United from signing Kim Min-jae
As per 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are concerned that the willingness of Harry Maguire to stay may hinder them from signing Kim Min-jae.
Maguire is keen to stay on as a United player even if his position in the squad is not of a regular starter. A report from Sun reveals that Newcastle United want to sign on loan, but the Red Devils are not interested in a loan deal.
Going back to the original revelation, United are keen on signing Napoli defender Min-jae. However, they can only get the South Korean international if Maguire leaves the club this summer.
After starting the first two games of the 2022/23 season under Erik ten Hag, the latter was dropped from the first-team squad. The manager then stayed put with the central defensive partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Even when he had to make a change or rotate, Luke Shaw was asked to play there and Victor Lindelof was ahead of Maguire in the pecking order too.
It is interesting to know why the 30-year-old wants to stay at the club despite being a fifth or sixth-choice player in his position.
He is not old enough to just be happy warming the bench for the most part of the season, isn’t it? There are clubs in England who would like to sign him.
For United, missing out on a chance to sign Min-jae as a result of Maguire staying would not be good going forward. The former is a quality centre-back who has the qualities to challenge the likes of Varane and Martine for a spot in central defence.

Moreover, a chance of getting some money from the Maguire sale to use for signing players in the summer window is apparent too. Let’s hope the Englishman is willing to leave the club in the coming window.
