Premier League rivals Chelsea are resigned to losing Manchester United and Manchester City target Mateo Kovacic next summer, according to The Guardian.

The Croatian international is set to enter the final year of his current contract at the Stamford Bridge side. However, there is uncertainty around a new deal for the midfielder and the Blues have no intention of losing him on a free transfer.

At the moment, there is no indication that the 29-year-old will put pen to paper on fresh terms at the West London club. Apart from the two Manchester rivals, Bayern Munich are also eyeing him.

Kovacic has been pivotal to Chelsea’s success over the years. Under Thomas Tuchel, who is now in charge of the Bavarians, the Croatian was a key player as the Blues lifted the Champions League title in 2020.

The 29-year-old made his way to the Stamford Bridge side in the summer of 2018 from Real Madrid. But it remains to be seen whether the midfielder will extend his stay in West London.

As for City, Pep Guardiola has an abundance of talent at his disposal, like Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. However, the Cityzens could lose Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer in the coming months.

On the other hand, United have counted on the partnership of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the engine room for most of the campaign. However, in their absence, our bench strength seems to be lacking somewhat.

We signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern in January 2023. While the Austrian has been an encouraging signing, he will return to Germany at the end of the season. Unfortunately, Fred and Scott McTomonay have been underwhelming under Erik ten Hag.

It is not always that a player of Kovacic’s quality is available on the market. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side will be able to pip City to potentially sign the Croatian for a cut-price from Chelsea.
