Erik ten Hag disappointed with Manchester United loss against Sevilla in Europa League
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was left disappointed with the Red Devils’ performance in the 3-0 loss to Sevilla in the Europa League.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team welcomed the Old Trafford side to the Ramon Sanchez Pijuan Stadium in the second leg of the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, we were dominated for most of the proceedings as the La Liga outfit qualified for the semi-finals.
Speaking to the media via the club’s official website, Ten Hag was not pleased with United’s display. The Dutch manager slammed the team for their lack of control of the game.
“A disappointing performance. It was not good enough. We have to do better. No composure on the ball and we made the wrong decisions to quickly concede the goal and we never came into the game.
“We changed [things] but, straight after half-time, [we conceded] another goal which was avoidable. It can’t happen at our level.”
The Red Devils conceded in the opening minutes of the match due to their own fault. David De Gea passed the ball to Harry Maguire on the edge of the box.
But the England international had a few Sevilla players on his toes and the La Liga outfit dispossessed our centre-back. Subsequently, Youssef En-Nesyri was one-on-one with our Spanish goalkeeper and found the back of the net.
The Spanish side were on top of the Old Trafford side during most of the first half with their high pressing. Going into the break, Mendilibar’s team went in with a one-goal advantage.
However, soon after the break, Sevilla scored another. Ivan Rakitic swung in a corner which was met by the shoulder of Lioc Bade, who was a bit fortunate to beat De Gea in between the sticks.
Thereafter, United were unable to pull off a comeback. It was En-Nesyri who found the back of the net once again after the Red Devils’ 32-year-old shot-stopper made a mess of things and was unable to clear his lines.
