Rúben Amorim in demand as Premier League move becomes ever likelier with Manchester United among those keen

Rúben Amorim is being chased by multiple Premier League giants and could move to England in the summer, according to The Daily Mail as reported by Eurosport.

The 39-year-old is the next big coaching sensation coming out of Portugal, having been rated highly for his fluid, attacking football for a while now.

Having arrived at Sporting in 2020, the former Portugal international has gone on to revitalise the club, helping them win four domestic trophies in four years.

Sporting are looking to cap off what could potentially be Amorim’s final season at the Estádio José Alvalade with another league title as they currently top the Primeira Liga table with seven games left to play.

Amorim’s situation is being monitored closely by Liverpool, who are yet to confirm the replacement for the outgoing Jürgen Klopp. Chelsea and Man United are also being linked with the Portuguese coach.

The Blues, however, have decided to distance themselves from Amorim for the time being as they look to back Mauricio Pochettino going into the business end of the 2023/24 season, giving the Red Devils a slight upper edge should they choose to dismiss their manager.

Erik ten Hag may well be out of Old Trafford in the summer

Erik ten Hag‘s job at Old Trafford is not safe by any stretch of the imagination. Retaining a Champions League place is now but a distant miraculous prospect for United as they sit 11 points off fourth-placed Spurs with seven games left to play. A shot at the FA Cup is possible, but it may prove to be insufficient to save the Dutchman’s job.

And that’s primarily down to the hierarchical changes currently going on at United ahead of next season. Dan Ashworth, having been put on gardening leave by Newcastle United in February as his negotiations with Man United emerged, is likely to be unveiled as the club’s new sporting director in the coming weeks.

Regardless of whether United manage to complete the Ashworth deal, they will eventually have a sporting director in place going forward, who will be in charge of appointing and subsequently working with head coaches at the club.

Ten Hag has demonstrated that he is capable of succeeding when a proper footballing structure is in place over him in a club hierarchy; just look at his Ajax years. But whether he gets to do that at United will solely depend on whether the new sporting director chooses to continue with him.

For now, the new INEOS ownership has been projecting on the outside an inclination towards sticking with Ten Hag for the next season, but we know how reliable such commitments are in truth.

All Ten Hag can do right now is finish the season as strongly as possible from this point on to make his case for continuing at Old Trafford next season.
