Leicester City eyeing return of Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire
Premier League rivals Leicester City are ‘eyeing’ a move to bring back Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Foxes will look to take the England international on loan in the upcoming transfer window. Erik ten Hag is preparing to chop and change his squad next summer and the 30-year-old could leave the club.
In the summer of 2019, the centre-back left the King Power Stadium side on good terms. Now, the East Midlands club would like him back on a temporary move.
However, Leicester are in a relegation battle at the moment. Therefore, it is not inconceivable to think that a player of the quality of Maguire would not want to play in the Championship right now.
While the England international has not enjoyed the best of spells at United since last season, he still possesses a lot of talent. The 30-year-old is still a regular fixture in the Three Lions’ setup and hardly fails to disappoint in Gareth Southgate’s team.
The Foxes parted ways with manager Brendan Rodgers after the defeat to Crystal Palace in their last match. Currently, they are in the 18th position in the table, although the other teams are not too far ahead.
Maguire has lost his influence at the Old Trafford side in the current campaign. Erik ten Hag has preferred the partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the Red Devils’ backline.
As a result, our skipper has been on the bench most often since the Dutch manager’s arrival. Therefore, if the England international opted to leave United in the coming months, it would not be a surprise.
