England international Luke Shaw reveals contract agreement with Manchester United
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has revealed that he is close to putting pen to paper and signing a new contract at the Old Trafford side.
The deal will see the defender tie himself down to the Red Devils until 2027. It will be signed soon, with the Manchester-based club set to approve the new terms.
Speaking to Sky Sports via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the England international admitted to agreeing on some of the contract details. However, nothing has been signed as of yet.
“I’m close to a new contract. Nothing has been signed yet. We’ve agreed certain things. We’ll take it from there.”
Shaw signed for United in the summer of 2014 from Southampton. The 27-year-old had shown immense potential with the Saints. However, it has taken the left-back some time to showcase his talent consistently.
Over the years, injuries have hampered the defender’s development and game time at the Old Trafford side. Thankfully, the England international has come into his own under Erik ten Hag.
However, the Dutch manager’s arrival first saw Shaw lose his place in the team initially. After some disappointing displays from the left-back at the start of the current campaign, the gaffer opted to play Tyrell Malacia, who put in some decent performances.
However, the England international has managed to regain his place in the team with some impressive displays over the last few months. The defender has now become a key player for Ten Hag at United.
The Dutch manager has even opted to play him as a centre-back at times. Even in an unnatural position, the 27-year-old has not looked out of place.
