Manchester United reach verbal agreement to sign Wout Weghorst
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement to sign Dutch striker Wout Weghorst from Burnley on a loan deal.
It is being claimed that this deal will cost the Red Devils around €3m to Besiktas, the Turkish club he is currently on loan at. They will agree to this deal only if they find a suitable replacement in the striker position.
The 30-year-old joined Burnley last season and did not have a good time with the Clarets. He was loaned out to the Super Lig side at the beginning of the current season and his loan spell in Turkey has been pretty impressive.
Weghorst recently hogged the limelight in the Netherlands’ feisty World Cup encounter with Argentina. The Dutch striker came off the bench to score a couple of goals to pull his side level 2-2 after trailing 2-0.
The problem for Man United in this particular deal is that they will have to offer compensation to Besiktas to cut his loan short. Unfortunately for them, Burnley do not have a recall clause on the player and the Turkish side are making life difficult for them.
Anyone who has seen the Dutchman play will know that Weghorst is very tall and built like a machine. He is an old-fashioned target man who feeds off crosses into the box and uses his physical strength and aerial ability to score a lot of headers.
Ideally, Weghorst is not the kind of player we must be aspiring to sign. However, it is possible to figure out Erik ten Hag’s thinking behind it as the 30-year-old will be of great value in situations where nothing else is working.
Right now, Man United have Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as the two options to play in that position. Both of them are rather similar in playstyle and are very pacey forwards who can also play on the wing.

Weghorst will offer a completely new dimension to Man United’s attack. It will definitely be a signing that can offer a lot and especially on a loan, we really cannot complain.
