Erik ten Hag hails performance of Marcus Rashford for Manchester United against Everton
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hailed the performance Marcus Rashford put in against Everton in the FA Cup. The Red Devils won the fixture 3-1.
We took on the Toffees on Friday (6 December) at Old Trafford in the third round of the domestic cup competition. The 25-year-old was involved in all three goals for the Manchester-based club on the night.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag expressed his delight over the England international’s display against Frank Lampard’s team. The gaffer was delighted with the forward constantly testing the Goodison Park side’s backline.
“Again, great performance in the game but he was from the first minute in the game.
“As a team, we dealt good with the setback and I think Marcus was the one who goes in front and showed the conviction, showed the belief, good movement, good runs behind, taking players on. For 90 minutes he was a threat for the Everton defenders.”
United opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the match through Antony. The Brazilian got on the end of a cross that was delivered by Rashford.
The Red Devils had several other chances in the first half. However, we went into the break level with Everton after David de Gea’s lapse in goal helped the Toffees equalise.
At the start of the second half, the Old Trafford side once again looked threatening. It was the 25-year-old again who was causing issues for Lampard’s team. In the 52nd minute, the English forward put another dangerous low cross into the opposition box, resulting in a Conor Coady own goal.
The Goodison Park side came back into the match and created a few decent chances. Dominic Calvert-Lewin did find the back of the net. However, it was ruled out by VAR for offside.
Then in stoppage time, Alejandro Garnacho was brought down by Ben Godfrey in the box. Subsequently, United were awarded a penalty which Rashford slotted past Jordan Pickford.
