Memphis Depay to decide Barcelona future ‘next week’ amidst Manchester United links
Barcelona star Memphis Depay is set to resolve his future at the Blaugrana ‘next week’ amidst links to Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Holland international’s career at the Catalan outfit seems to be in its final stages. And the Old Trafford side are one of the clubs associated with the 28-year-old’s signature.
Depay previously had a small stint at United. The forward spent a season and a half in Manchester. He signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2015 from PSV Eindhoven.
However, the Holland international’s time at the club was not fruitful. Subsequently, he joined Olympique Lyon, where the 28-year-old revived his reputation.
After Depay’s time in France, Barcelona pounced on his signature and signed the forward as a free agent in the summer of 2021. However, this season, the 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Catalan outfit.
Initially, the Holland international was a key player for the Blaugrana. However, after Ronald Koeman’s sacking from the Camp Nou side’s dugout, he has found game time hard to come by.
Barcelona added the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha to Xavi’s squad. This has left Depay with very few opportunities. However, the 28-year-old showed glimpses of his talent at the Qatar World Cup with the Netherlands.
United recently lost Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed the club midway through the campaign. As a result, Erik ten Hag’s options for the number nine position have dwindled.

Thus a centre-forward is evidently needed in the squad. While Depay has not had the best of times at Barcelona, the 28-year-old is a more mature player since his last stint in Manchester. But will the Red Devils re-sign the Dutchman? Only time will tell.
