Manchester United learn the asking price of Portuguese forward Joao Felix
According to AS (via Sport Witness) [h/t Manchester Evening News], Manchester United have learned the asking price for talented Portuguese forward Joao Felix with Atletico Madrid demanding €100m for their star striker.
The Red Devils are said to be leading the race for Felix despite heavy competition for the former Benfica man. The talented forward fell out of favour with coach Diego Simeone and has been restricted to substitute appearances.
Whilst there is no questioning the talent that Felix has, there have been question marks over the player’s compatibility in Atletico’s system. He has not really fit in there and there is a feeling that he needs to be playing in a more attacking team.
Felix was one of the most exciting Portuguese talents when he was playing for Benfica and it is easy to understand why. Even now, the 23-year-old oozes class and is always one of the most exciting players to watch.
The Atletico Madrid man had a pretty good World Cup in Qatar, establishing himself as a regular starter and scoring one goal and providing two assists. He is expected to leave the Spanish club soon with many top clubs interested in him.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s unceremonious exit from Manchester United has left a gaping hole in the frontline. Although Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have played there, the Red Devils will want a genuine striker option to lead their line.
Who better than a Portuguese player to replace one of the best ones ever to take the football pitch and Felix can be the perfect Ronaldo replacement. He can lead the line for many years to come and would be a smart signing.
Felix is not expected to be cheap but he will definitely be worth the price. It’s high time he leaves Atletico Madrid and it remains to be seen how the Red Devils go about pulling this transfer off amidst interest from elsewhere.
