Cristiano Ronaldo believes it will be difficult for Manchester United to get back to the top
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that it will take the club “two or three years” to get back to the top. The Portugal international feels that certain issues within the Old Trafford side are hindering their success.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner had a conversation with Piers Morgan in which he criticised the club. Erik ten Hag was also not spared by the 37-year-old. The forward stated that he had no respect for the gaffer.
The full interview airs on Wednesday and Thursday on TalkTV. However, in a preview via The Sun, Ronaldo claims the Red Devils are being held back. He thinks it will be challenging for the Old Trafford side to reach its previous heights.
“You have some things inside the club which don’t help Manchester reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal, for example. Which is complicated, it’s difficult.
“It’s hard in my opinion, it will be hard for Manchester to be in the top of the game. The next two, three years.”
The Portuguese star first joined United back in 2003 from Sporting CP. He spent five fruitful years in Manchester, where he won multiple trophies, before leaving for Real Madrid.
Ronaldo won three Premier League titles and got his hands on a Champions League medal. The forward won his first Ballon d’Or in 2008 when he was still part of the Old Trafford side.
Upon leaving the Red Devils, the Portuguese icon has added multiple pieces of silverware to his trophy cabinet. And the 37-year-old has gotten himself into the conversation of being the greatest footballer of all time.
Ronaldo’s homecoming to Manchester last year was met with excitement from the fanbase. And he did not disappoint as the 37-year-old ended the 2021/22 campaign as our leading goalscorer in all competitions.
Unfortunately, we failed to win or compete for titles. United finished sixth in the league and were knocked out of the UCL round of 16 by Atletico Madrid.
