Manchester United will revive their interest in Ajax Amsterdam and Netherlands defender Jurrien Timber in the coming transfer windows, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti via Football365 (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils were eyeing the 21-year-old in the summer of 2022. However, a deal did not end up materialising between the two clubs.

But now, the Old Trafford side are being linked with the centre-back’s signature once more. He has been identified as a possible replacement for club captain Harry Maguire.

The England international has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Erik ten Hag in the United dugout. Since starting the first two games of the campaign, the 29-year-old has found game time hard to come by.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been the preferred pairing at the back for the gaffer. And the French and Argentine duo have been relatively solid for us in defence.

Martinez signed for the Red Devils in the recent transfer window from De Godenzonen. He reunited with Ten Hag in Manchester after a successful spell in Amsterdam.

The Argentine’s signing has been successful. Most fans have immediately taken a liking to the 24-year-old. His aggression and tenacity on the pitch have turned him into a crowd favourite.

Timber has come up through the ranks at Ajax. He played alongside Martinez in the backline last season and lifted the Eredivisie title. The 21-year-old is also set to be part of the Holland contingent that will be flying to Qatar for the World Cup.

Ten Hag is familiar with the defender. And the players the gaffer has bought from his former side have had a quick start to life with United. Thus, it would be interesting to see how another star from Ajax fares under the Dutch manager in Manchester.
