Barcelona forward Memphis Depay could get offer in January to rejoin Manchester United

Manchester United could offer Barcelona forward Memphis Depay a chance to rejoin the Red Devils in the January transfer window, according to Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez on Twitter via The Hard Tackle (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Holland international might be on his way out of the Camp Nou side at the turn of the new year. And the Old Trafford side are being linked with his signature.

The 28-year-old was being eyed by the Manchester-based club in the summer of 2023. However, a deal did not materialise between the club and the forward who plies his trade with the Blaugrana.

Depay made his way to Barcelona last year on a free transfer. He was initially an important member of the Catalan giants’ starting lineup. However, with the dismissal of Ronald Koeman from the La Liga outfit’s dugout, the Holland international’s fortunes changed.

Xavi Hernandez replaced the former Netherlands head coach at the Spanish club. And since then, the 28-year-old has had a hard time getting regular game time.

In the previous campaign, Depay made 38 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions. He found the back of the net 13 times for the Blaugrana, finishing as their joint-top goalscorer.

However, this season, with the arrival of the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha to Camp Nou, the Holland international has not been handed a lot of opportunities. As a result, he has made just three appearances in all competitions in the current term.

The 28-year-old joined United in the summer of 2015 from PSV Eindhoven. However, after underwhelming at the club, he left for Olympique Lyon, where the forward thrived.

Depay is not the player he previously was. The Holland international has matured and become a better player. And with the evident problems the Red Devils have had this season in the number nine position, it would be wise to add reinforcements.
