Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel does not feel Jadon Sancho has done enough to get into the England World Cup squad. The ex-Red Devil believes the 22-year-old has not been consistent enough with the Old Trafford side.

Gareth Southgate has picked his Three Lions contingent to represent the nation in Qatar. However, while three players from the Manchester-based club made the cut, the former Borussia Dortmund star missed out.

Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t The Daily Mail), Schmeichel, who was United’s goalkeeper for eight years during his playing career, has been disappointed with the displays of the England international since coming to the club.

“I don’t think he’s done enough.

“I’m a little bit disappointed with the talent that he has, and yes it’s difficult to come to Old Trafford with that price-tag, I understand that. But he’s shown that he can do whatever he did at Borussia Dortmund, he just hasn’t done it enough.”

The 22-year-old made the switch to the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 from BVB. In Germany, he was one of the best forwards for a few years and caught a lot of people’s attention.

However, Sancho has not been able to replicate that form with the Old Trafford side. Most fans expected him to bring creativity to our forward line. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.

The England international has shown glimpses of his qualities in a red shirt. But unfortunately, those instances have been few and far between.

In the previous campaign, the 22-year-old made 38 appearances for United in all competitions. He found the back of the net just five times and provided three assists.

Sancho started the new campaign in fine form under Erik ten Hag. However, the winger has not had the desired impact in the starting lineup in recent weeks. Other options have contributed more towards the team.

The 22-year-old missed out on an England call-up in the last international break as well. He has not featured for the Three Lions since September 2021. And the forward’s performances have certainly not warranted his place on the plane to Qatar.
