Erik ten Hag gives verdict on the performance of Alejandro Garnacho in first Manchester United start against Sheriff

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was satisfied by the display of Alejandro Garnacho against Sheriff Tiraspol. The Red Devils took on the Moldovan outfit at Old Trafford on 27 October (Thursday).

We came away with the three points as the game ended 3-0. Goals from Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo rounded off the comfortable win for us.

The occasion marked a special moment for Granacho, who got his first start for United. And the forward was electric on the left wing, troubling the opposition defence on several instances.

Speaking after the victory over Sheriff via Metro, Ten Hag felt the Argentine youngster lived up to the expectations. The Dutch manager revealed the 18-year-old’s full debut was a long time coming.

“I think it was a good performance from him. He did what I expect him to do. First, he deserved a chance in the last weeks.

“The start was difficult for him in the season, I was not happy with him. But the last weeks I was happy with him. He’s had a better attitude, more resilience, more determination.”

Garnacho made his debut for the Red Devils last season. In the 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Old Trafford in April, the Argentine came on to play the final few minutes. He was handed his second first-team appearance in the final match of the 2021/22 campaign against Crystal Palace.

The winger has gotten more minutes this season under Ten Hag, especially in the UEL. However, against Sheriff at Old Trafford, fans were able to see him for an extended period on the pitch.

There is a lot of competition for places up front. Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Ronaldo and Anthony Martial are all vying for a starting spot. Anthony Elanga is also in the mix.

Garnacho looked to take on defenders and created a few chances in the game. The Argentine’s full debut lasted 79 minutes as he was substituted for Donny van de Beek.

Overall, the 18-year-old looked promising. He brought energy and a cutting edge to the front line. Hopefully, as the campaign goes on, we are able to see more of the forward.
