Signing a right-back will be ‘main priority’ of Manchester United in the January transfer window
Manchester United will prioritise the signing of a right-back to bolster the defence in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Sly Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Currently, Erik ten Hag has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the squad as natural right-backs. However, the Portugal international has started every game with the former Crystal Palace star seemingly out of favour.
Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong is one of the players the Manchester-based club are eyeing. The Dutch national used to play for Manchester City during his younger years.
Plettenberg also claims the Red Devils will look to strengthen other areas as well. A striker and a goalkeeper are the positions the Old Trafford side are seemingly trying to add depth in.
Wan-Bissaka has found it hard to get into the side since the arrival of Ralf Rangnick in the Old Trafford dugout. The 24-year-old lost his place to Diogo Dalot in the starting lineup.
Fans have been left frustrated with the former Palace star’s offensive output over the years. And Portugal international has cemented his place in the team with his performances under the new gaffer.
Wan-Bissaka has not been available to Ten Hag for some time now this season. The 24-year-old has played just four minutes of competitive football. This has placed a burden on Dalot.
The 23-year-old is the outfield player who has played the most minutes for the club in the 2022/23 campaign as of now. Unfortunately, the congested schedule has only made things more challenging.
