Barcelona ready to cash in on Manchester United summer 2022 target Frenkie de Jong
Frenkie de Jong, who was a Manchester United target in the summer of 2022, could be sold by Barcelona to recoup some money, according to The Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Blaugrana are ready to cash in on the Holland international. The Red Devils pursued the 25-year-old in the recent transfer window. However, the former Ajax star remained at the Camp Nou side amidst contractual issues.
Barcelona are currently on the brink of exit from their Champions League group. And that could come with some financial implications. Thus, the Catalan giants could be forced to sell the midfielder after their summer spending spree.
Xavi Hernandez was handed the funds in the recent transfer window. Barcelona bought the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde, amongst others, to bolster their squad. However, Europa League football looks like a real possibility.
United ended up with two midfield additions in the summer of 2022. Christian Eriksen signed as a free agent after a fruitful spell at Brentford. And the Denmark international has made an immediate impact in Manchester.
The Red Devils also bought Casemiro from Real Madrid. The Brazilian has been one of the best defensive midfielders over the years.
While Casemiro has not had an easy start, his qualities are evident. In his first Premier League start against Everton, the 30-year-old picked up the Man of the Match award.
However, there have been games this season where we have seemingly lacked control in the middle of the park. And fans who have seen De Jong play know he is one of the best at keeping a hold of the ball in pressure situations.
