Brentford set to offer Ivan Toney a new contract to fend off Manchester United interest

Ivan Toney, who Manchester United have been monitoring, is set to be offered a new six-figure-a-week contract by Brentford, according to The Mirror. The West London club want to tie down the 26-year-old to a new deal and secure their asset.

Toney joined Brentford in 2020 from Peterborough United. And his current contract with the Bees ends in 2025. However, since joining the West London club, the English striker has not seen an improvement in his terms.

The 26-year-old has gone from strength to strength since joining Brentford. Toney was a big part in the Bees securing promotion to the top flight last season. And he was a big part in them retaining their Premier League status.

Subsequently, Toney was called up by Gareth Southgate for his first England call-up in the recent international break. And top clubs, including Man United, are keeping an eye on the 26-year-old.

Thus, the hierarchy at Brentford are keen on rewarding Toney for the progress he has made over the years. And the new deal could probably include a hefty release clause.

Toney has started the 2022/23 campaign on the front foot. In 10 appearances for the Bees in all competitions, the English striker has scored six goals and provided three assists.

The 26-year-old was part of the 4-0 drubbing that Man United suffered at the Gtech Community Stadium. Toney provided two assists in the game as Brentford scored four past the Old Trafford side in the first 35 minutes.

Against Leeds United this season, Toney scored an impressive hattrick at home. Thomas Frank’s side have impressed many with the football they have played.
