Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries being eyed by Manchester United for January transfer window

Manchester United are eyeing a move for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries in the January transfer window, according to Calcio Mercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Holland international’s current contract with the Serie A giants runs until 2025. So a possible move for the 26-year-old would not be cheap at the moment.

Currently, Erik ten Hag has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the options for the right-back spot. However, with the former Crystal Palace star out of favour in the eyes of the Dutch manager, the Portuguese lacks competition in the team.

Wan-Bissaka has fallen down the pecking order since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The arrival of Ralf Rangnick saw Dalot getting more minutes, leaving the England U21 international struggling for minutes.

And the appointment of Ten Hag has reinforced the Portuguese right-back’s place in the starting lineup. The 23-year-old has started every game for the Red Devils this season.

On the other hand, Wan-Bissaka has seen just four minutes of action in the 2022/23 campaign. And the Old Trafford side seemingly need to add more depth in the right-back spot.

Dumfries is an attack-minded player who usually plays as a right-wing-back for the Nerazzurri as well as the Netherlands national team. In the previous campaign, the 26-year-old made 45 appearances for Milan in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.

This season under Simone Inzaghi, Dumfries has once again been a vital member of the Italian outfit’s starting XI. The Holland international has featured in every game for the Serie A giants.

Thus, considering Dumfries is evidently a vital member of the Inter side, will the Italian club let the 26-year-old go? Only time will tell. However, United fans want to see someone come in to provide support for Dalot.
