Erik ten Hag reveals what he told Marcus Rashford after joining Manchester United

Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has revealed what he told Marcus Rashford after joining the club this summer.

Rashford had struggled last season and it was said that the 24-year-old forward wanted to leave the club this summer. However, after the former Ajax manager was appointed, the forward was excited to work with him.

And now, Ten Hag, while speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), has revealed what he said to the forward on his day one at the club.

“From day one I was so excited to work with him. I saw his status and I knew already the impact he could have and his potential. I told him on day one, I want to see you smiling every day. We said that we would prepare the training sessions and then it’s up to you to love the training and give your best because when you feel pressure in training and enjoy it you will give your best.”

It is clear that the 24-year-old is now happy at the club. He has been in very good form this season, scoring three goals and getting two assists in six games in all competitions.

As compared to last season, the forward only could muster five goals in 32 appearances in all competitions. Rashford has become one of our most important players, along with Jadon Sancho and Christian Eriksen.

The striker has built a very good partnership up front with Sancho and Antony. All were at their best against Arsenal last time out, in which the 24-year-old scored a brace to give his side a 3-1 victory over their old rivals.

But the biggest challenge for all of them is tomorrow (October 2). The Red Devils will make a short trip across town to face neighbours Manchester City for the Manchester derby. This could be the biggest challenge for Ten Hag and Rashford.
