Transfer News: Antony did not show up for Ajax training amidst Manchester United links
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Brazilian winger Antony failed to show up for Ajax training as he continues to push for a move to Manchester United before the transfer window closes.
Antony has been linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout this summer. Man United were very active in their pursuit of the Brazilian winger during the first few weeks of the window but things seem to have fizzled out.
However, things have really picked up in recent days. Antony is pushing for a move away from Amsterdam and wants the Dutch champions to negotiate with Manchester United to come to an agreement.
Antony has been regarded as one of the best young wingers in Europe. He is extremely talented and was one of Erik ten Hag’s most important players over the past couple of seasons during their time together,
It is no doubt that Antony will be a good addition to the Red Devils’ squad. He has the qualities to succeed in the Premier League and with the talent he possesses, he is most likely to very soon if he makes the move.
However, Manchester United really need to get their priorities right. They have so much work to do to improve their team and signing a player for the wings is definitely not one of them, as things stand at least.
Man United have so many quality wingers at their disposal. Marcus Rashford, despite enduring a rut has so much quality. Sancho is very talented and is showing glimpses of finally coming good this season.
Anthony Elanga has been very impressive. In Facundo Pellistri, Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho, the Red Devils have a very young crop that can step in if required. Even Anthony Martial is an option, with the Frenchman playing most of his formative years on the wing.
Why Manchester United want Antony so badly is not exactly clear. Although they have signed Casemiro, the Red Devils could still do with one more midfielder. The full-back is another area that is not at the standard it needs to be at. If Cristiano Ronaldo leaves, Manchester United also need a striker.

With so much work to do, putting all the eggs in one basket is not a wise choice. Manchester United may indeed end up signing Antony but if it comes at the cost of other reinforcements, it could prove to be a bad choice for the Red Devils.
