Brandon Williams open to staying at Manchester United this transfer window

Manchester United academy product Brandon Williams is open to staying at the club this transfer window, according to the Manchester Evening News. The 21-year-old is set to reassess his future in January.

The Red Devils currently have several options for the full-back positions. But the abysmal start of the 2022/23 campaign has put a spotlight on the backline. The likes of Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot have started both games but have looked shaky defensively.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, on the other hand, has an uncertain future in Manchester, with former club Crystal Palace interested in resigning him. Tyrell Malacia signed from PSV Eindhoven just this summer.

The uncertainty in the full-back positions at United has opened up the possibility of Williams staying at the club for the time being. Other options on the right and left-hand side of defence have also left this summer, including Alex Telles, Alvaro Fernandez and Ethan Laird.

The 21-year-old has featured 50 times for the Red Devils since his debut in 2019. He’s a right-footed player who is generally played on the left.

The left-back was on loan at Norwich City last season. For the Canaries, the United academy product made 29 appearances. Unfortunately, the Norfolk side failed to stay in the Premier League. Having returned from his loan spell, the 21-year-old spent the pre-season on the sidelines.

In the previous campaign, the Manchester-based club’s backline struggled. The side conceded 57 goals in the Premier League. United had the eighth worst defensive record in the league. We ended the season with a goal difference of zero.

While Williams may not be the solution to our defensive woes, it has seemingly been hard for United to get new additions this summer. The 21-year-old could be an option in case another full-back leaves.
