Bologna sporting director Marco Di Vaio considers Manchester United target Marko Anrnautovic priceless
Manchester United have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit for Bologna centre-forward Marko Arnautovic. The Austrian is considered ‘priceless’ by sporting director Marco Di Vaio.
The 33-year-old joined the Serie A outfit last summer from China. Over the course of last season, Anrnautovic scored important goals for the Rossoblu. He ended the previous campaign as Bologna’s top goalscorer, netting 15 goals in all competitions.
Speaking to Italia1 (h/t Evening Standard), Di Vaio, who had an extensive career as a player in Serie A, suggested that no amount could get Bologna to accept a transfer for Arnautovic. The Italian club’s sporting director is adamant about keeping the Austrian.
“It’s not a question of money, he’s priceless for what he means to us.
“We want to move forward with him because we are convinced that he can get better and help us grow. He is always the first in training to push the others, he has no market value.”
United have problems to deal with up front. The attack faltered last season. Except Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, no other player contributed enough.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial struggled in the previous campaign. The Frenchman left the Red Devils in January on loan after not being given many opportunities.
The English duo of Rashford and Sancho looked low on confidence. They were unable to make a big enough impact on the games they featured in. The former Borussia Dortmund winger was finding his feet. But our 24-year-old academy star had one of his worst seasons in a red shirt.
Pre-season showed encouraging signs. Our attack seemed to be back to its best. Martial got on the scoresheet in the Asia and Australia tours. But the 26-year-old got injured before the opening game of the 2022/23 campaign.
Christian Eriksen ended up starting as our centre-forward against Brighton & Hove Albion. The match did not provide the result Erik ten Hag or United fans would have wanted.

The Manchester-based club need attacking reinforcements. Whether we get Arnautovic remains to be seen. But supporters don’t feel the Austrian is the answer to our lacklustre attack.
