Manchester United are working on a deal with Juventus for Adrien Rabiot
Manchester United are working on a deal for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required). However, the Red Devils are yet to negotiate personal terms with the midfielder ahead of a possible transfer.
United have been pursuing Frenkie de Jong this summer. Erik ten Hag had the 25-year-old at Ajax before the Dutch maestro moved to Barcelona. The Red Devils are looking to reunite the new gaffer with the Holland international.
But a deal for De Jong is still ongoing. In the meantime, we need to approach alternatives. The Red Devils need to ensure they’re not left red-faced by the end of the transfer window if the Dutch star doesn’t arrive.
The France international has a year left on his deal at the Allianz Stadium. The 27-year-old signed for the Old Lady in 2019 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. In his three seasons in Italy since then, Rabiot has been a regular for the Serie A giants.
The former PSG star is versatile. He’s capable of playing as a pivot or in the number eight role. Rabiot was considered one of the best young talents at the start of his career in Paris. But the France international hasn’t lived up to expectations.
The 27-year-old is still a quality midfielder. For Juventus, Rabiot has appeared 129 times in all competitions. The France international is a player who has amassed vast experience over the years.
The Red Devils need to sign a midfielder this transfer window. United currently don’t have a lot of quality in the middle of the park. Fred and Scot McTominay have left fans wanting more.
The duo started the games against Brighton & Hove Albion on opening day. The Brazil and Scotland internationals had a bad game by United’s standards. Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes are more attack-minded in their play. We have youngsters like James Garner, but the 21-year-old is still inexperienced.
