Transfer News: €50m not sufficient for Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are yet to reach an agreement for talented Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez with a €50m bid supposedly not sufficient.

Manchester United want to sign the talented Argentinian centre-back from Ajax this summer but they are not alone in their interest in the Ajax defender with Premier League rivals also keen on a move for the talented footballer.

One of the most talented players in Erik ten Hag’s team for the past few seasons, Lisandro Martinez has grown from strength to strength ever since he moved to the Amsterdam club from Defensa back in 2019.

The 24-year-old centre-back performed exceptionally for Ajax in the recent season and was even voted the ‘Ajax player of the year’ for his exploits. Erik ten Hag rated him very highly during his time at Amsterdam, and it is no surprise he wants to sign him now.

The Argentinian defender played 36 times for the Eredivisie champions last season scoring one goal and providing four assists across all competitions. One thing that really holds the Argentinian in good stead is his versatility.

The Ajax man can play as a centre-back, left-back and even as a defensive midfielder at times. This kind of flexibility makes Lisandro Martinez a dream for any coach to have as he can be deployed in so many positions.

Man United need defensive reinforcements ahead of next season. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are extremely inconsistent to be trusted with a starting role. Even Raphael Varane for all his quality did not have a great first season at Old Trafford.

Ajax are playing hard to get and are holding out for big money for the Argentinian defender but if his performances for the Eredivisie champions are anything to go by, he will definitely be worth paying the money for.

Man United must pay Ajax the money they ask for if they are serious about signing Lisandro Martinez. It remains to be seen how the Red Devils handle this situation but it certainly will be a signing worth the effort it takes.
