Transfer News: Manchester United agree on personal terms with Lisandro Martinez and Antony

According to the Daily Record (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have reached an agreement on personal terms with Ajax duo Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

It is no secret that Manchester United are keen on signing the Ajax duo this summer with both players heavily linked with a move away from Amsterdam this summer. Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag is keen on reuniting with his former stars at Old Trafford.

Arsenal are also interested in the Argentinian defender and hence negotiations could end up being a long-drawn process. But perhaps that is the price one pays to chase down a player with the talent Martinez possesses.

Antony on the other hand is one of the most talented young wingers in Holland and is likely to cost any buying club a pretty penny. Ajax may not want to part ways with their prized asset at any bargain price and Man United would know that.

Both Lisandro Martinez and Antony have really impressed during their time in Amsterdam and it makes sense that they are now ready to take the next big leap. Undoubtedly, both players have what it takes to make it big in English football.

From a Man United perspective, Martinez should be a much bigger priority as of now than Antony due to the positions they play in. Our options on the wing are pretty decent and we can manage even without reinforcements.

The same cannot be said about our defence though which is crying out for new faces. The options we have failed to convince. Even Raphael Varane for all his quality did not have the best of first seasons at Old Trafford.

If history is anything to go by, it’s not advisable for us to go into the new season with Harry Maguire as our first choice centre-back. Hence, bringing in a new talented defender might just be the play for the Red Devils.

Lisandro Martinez would be the perfect solution for Man United. At 24, he is still very young and can learn the trade by playing alongside a man of Raphael Varane’s experience. With the correct development, he could emerge as a natural leader at the back.

This does not mean that we must not pursue Antony. If we have the finances to pull the deal off, the Brazilian will be a sensational signing for Man United. It remains to be seen what happens but exciting times lie ahead for the Red Devils.
